Visco Elastic Material Damper
Visco Elastic Material Damper
VEM Damper is used usually in either displacement- or vibration- sensitive structure such as high-rise building to increase the global structural damping of the structure. The purpose is to reduce the amplitude of structural motion due to either wind loading or earthquake induced vibration.
The VEM Damper consists of two layers of high damping elastomeric component that are bonded to three steel plates. Two of the steel plates act as the external plate while the remaining plate is the interior plate, which is often thicker than the rest. The sandwiched elastomeric component allows the shear deformation to occur while exhibiting hysteresis damping behavior.
The selection of VEM Damper is typically governed by the total shear movement and also the maximum expected shear force. Commonly, the range of VEM Damper are between 500 to 1000 kN with shear displacement up to +/- 30 mm. Nevertheless, we are able to develop customized property of the device should it becomes necessary.
